Law to require hands-free cell phone use while driving

Nov 08, 2006

Dear Readers: Driving while using a cell phone has been the subject of several columns. I want my readers to know that beginning July 1, 2008 it will be against the law in California to use a cell phone while driving a motor vehicle unless that cell phone is operated HANDS-FREE. Texting requires the hands and will not be tolerated while driving—not even at red lights.

I encourage you to act now. There are many high-quality ear pieces to choose from, both conventional and wireless. With the holidays coming, hands-free gear will make a great gift for parents and teenagers alike.
